Technical School Training
In 2023 Fundación AHLE signed a cooperation agreement with the technical school "Centro Técnico Hondureño Aleman". Courses in Auto Mechanic, Welding as well as Refrigeration and A/C Technology are opened to our students, the community and surrounding areas. Upon completion they will receive a certificate that is recognized all over Honduras. This program offers skills and opens another opportunity to those boys that are not academically inclined.
A new alliance for growth and opportunity is the collaboration in 2023 with the Municipality and the Merchant Marine School of Honduras which set up a permanent school on our premises. This cooperation will open marine courses to young people in rural areas that wish to find empoyment in the shipping industry. The demand from the community has surpassed our expectations and courses are being filled to capacity. The total cost of the Merchant Marine Training and Certifications (STCW) is $2,500.
Agricultural Program
Teaching the kids to grow their own food is one of the most valuable lessons in a country that is mostly agricultural. At AHLE we have a substantial vegetable garden where every year the kids plant cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, kale, mustard leaves and other greens. There are also many plantain, banana plants, avocado and mango trees, and a chicken coop to supply our kitchen with eggs. In 2014 we obtained an additional piece of agricultural property near AHLE where corn and yuca are planted every year. The children are involved in tending to the veggie garden and the chickens as part of the house chores, and harvesting the crops for AHLE and to share with the community as a weekend activity.
